Support the Oregon Flora Project!
Contributions
Donations from individuals and plant-oriented societies are a critical part of the Oregon Flora Project operating budget. Sustained support from our generous donors insures that progress on the Flora Project keeps happening!
The Oregon Flora Project accepts donations through the Agricultural Research Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation affiliated with Oregon State University. Gift contributions and charitable bequests to the Foundation are deductible and can help accrue tax benefits.
Please direct your contributions to:

Please also include “Oregon Flora Project – ARF 4482” on your check memo line.
Membership in the Friends of the Oregon Flora Project, a committee of the Native Plant Society of Oregon (NPSO), is also an excellent way to support our goals. Any contributions designated for the OFP that are made payable to NPSO are transferred to the Agricultural Research Foundation.
Volunteering
Much of the work done for the Oregon Flora Project is accomplished by volunteers. The Oregon Flora Project represents an excellent way to become a part of this major study of Oregon's plant life!
We welcome volunteers of all ages and skill levels--hundreds of individuals have participated in the Oregon Flora Project so far by sending in species lists, specimens, photographs, or by working on tasks either in our offices or at home.
Some of the opportunities for volunteers include:
- Identifying financial supporters and opportunities for supported collaborations or partnerships with public and/or private entities.
- Submitting plant species lists or photographs from various areas of the state for use in the Atlas database and the Photo Gallery. Plant lists and photographs from the most remote corners of Oregon are always welcome!
- Organizing and implementing fundraising events for the OFP. E.g., silent auctions, musical events, plant sales, guided hikes with catered lunch, workplace information tables.
- Checking scientific literature for references to Oregon plants.
- Revitalizing the “Adopt-A-Block” program, which assigns a 24x24 mile block to an individual(s) for the purpose of compiling species lists from the area. This would succeed with a quarter- to half-time work commitment for ~12 months from someone with computer, basic botanical, and people skills.
- Slide scanning. Volunteer would need access to a slide scanner and familiarity with Photoshop functions to crop, rotate, and adjust brightness of images, and to enter information into the images database.
- Slide identification. This could be a an individual or a group event, but would require skilled botanists to confirm the IDs. Needed for an ID event: (1) person to pull slides from our library in Corvallis, and (2) a data recorder to enter ID into spreadsheet as images are confirmed.
Some of these tasks are best accomplished at our base in the Oregon State University Herbarium, in Corvallis. Other tasks can be done remotely with occasional visits to our office, while others can be performed solely by working online from locations statewide.
