Look for a cvs tag on a 6 inch diameter Chinkapin on the rock outcrop. Tag faces away from the trail. Go east on 500 to the end of the road, 1.1 miles. Walk north ont he burned road 500 for about 0.2 mile to the clearcut. Pick you way east along the south edge of the clearcut to below the huge slash pile. The Reference point is on the stand edge beneath the slash pile., 43.24 -122.76, 1250m

Follow 958 for 1.2 miles to the Kelsay Valley TRailhead. follow the trail to Dutch Oven Camp where you cross the river on a small footbridge. Follow the signs toward Maidu Lake. After 43 Ch past the first footbridge, you will come to \\Elk 5\\ a large game trail which leads down to the river in a more or less Southeasterly direction.
