Morella californica
Gerald D. Carr

This evergreen shrub with fragrant leaves makes an excellent visual screen or hedgerow component. The narrowly elliptic leaves are similar to those of some willows although they are waxy in texture. Clusters of small purple, warty berries appear in the axils of leaves and are prized food for birds and wildlife. This hardy shrub does well in diverse light and moisture regimes, and is moderately drought tolerant once established.
