Herbs glabrous.

Stems subacaulescent to suberect, to 35 cm.

Leaves triangular-hastate to reniform, 3–5(7) cm, basal lobes parallel to widely spreading.

Bracts attached immediately below and closely surrounding calyx, ovate, elliptic or suborbicular, 9–18 mm wide, not keeled, often saccate, bases cordate, tips rounded to emarginate.

Inflorescences solitary flowers.

Flowers corollas 40–73 mm, white.

Open, often rocky places, sometimes in open forests and disturbed sites. Flowering May–Jul. 50–1600 m. Casc, CR, WV. WA. Native.

Plants in Oregon are along a continuum of variation between typical C. atriplicifolia ssp. atriplicifolia found in Washington and C. atriplicifolia ssp. buttensis in California. The latter are more erect plants with smaller corollas 31–44 mm in length and narrower, 4–8 mm-wide bracts that more or less flat.
