Stems erect, hollow.

Leaves basal and cauline, compound, 2–3-ternate-pinnate, triangular-ovate in outline, margins serrate and occasionally lobed; leaflets wide; sheaths slightly to prominently inflated; petioles short to well-developed.

Inflorescences terminal or axillary compound umbels; peduncled; involucres absent; rays 5–65; involucel bractlets 0–15.

Flowers sepals 0 or minute; petals obovate, white, rarely pink to purple, tips rounded.

Fruits oblong to round, flattened or not, glabrous to hairy; ribs unequal; marginal wings wider than or equal to others.

Circumboreal. ~60 species; 6 species treated in Flora.
