Plants 7–20 dm, nearly glabrous to tomentose.

Leaves 10–35 cm, thick, underside tomentose; leaflets lanceolate to ovate, (2)3–11 cm.

Inflorescences peduncles 10–45 cm; rays 20–65, 2–11 cm; involucel bractlets 0–3, 3–10 mm; pedicels 1–4 mm.

Flowers ovaries tomentose.

Fruits oblong to ovate, 5–9 mm.

2n=22.

Coastal bluffs and dunes. Flowering Jun–Aug. 0–100 m. Est. CA, WA. Native.
