Herbs aquatic, glabrous; stems 0.

Leaves in a basal rosette, linear, cylindric, 2–6 cm, fleshy, entire, hollow.

Scapes 1–6(10) dm; bracts reduced and often filiform.

Flowers 1–11; calyces becoming cylindric in fruit, lobes triangular to linear, 1–4 mm; corollas 8–20 mm, white or light blue, lobes linear, lower lip pubescent; anthers pubescent.

Fruits 5–10 mm.

Seeds 0.5–1 mm.

Edges of lakes and ponds. Flowering Jul–Aug. 100–1500 m. ECas. WA; north to Alaska, east across Canada to Great Lakes and northeastern states. Native.

In Oregon, this species is known only from near Camp Sherman, Jefferson County.
