Plants caulescent or subacaulescent.

Roots thickened, elongate taproots.

Caudices simple, 2–3-branched or multicipital; basal leaf sheaths from previous years weathering into a fibrous thatch at or below ground level; previous year’s peduncles persistent in thatch as gray stalks.

Stems 20–40 cm; pseudoscapes absent.

Basal leaves glabrous; primary leaflets pinnate, 1–4 secondary leaflet pairs along each rachis, laterals at least half of central primary in length; secondaries pinnate; tertiaries entire or pinnatifid (2–3-lobed); ultimate apical lobes linear, narrowly oblong, narrowly elliptic, 2–30 × 1–3 mm, tips acute or subacute, mucronulate.

Cauline leaves 1–2, similar to basal.

Inflorescences peduncles 1–4 (or more in robust plants), ascending or erect, stout, 10–30 cm, glabrous; involucral bracts 0; rays 8–20, 1–4.5 cm, glabrous; involucel bractlets 0–2, 0.7–2 × 0.1–0.3 mm, margins not scarious; umbellets 15–25-flowered; pedicels 5–9 mm.

Flowers petals yellow; anthers ochroleucous or yellow.

Fruits oblong, elliptic, 6–10 mm, glabrous; body 1.5–3 mm wide; wings 1–2 mm, thin; vittae 1 in intervals, 2 on commissure.

Cliffs, ledges, crevices, rocky slopes, outcrops in scablands and scrublands, on basalt-derived substrates. Flowering Apr–May. 50–700 m. Col. WA. Native.
