Plants annual or perennial.

Stems erect, 1–5 dm, softly hirsute.

Leaves blades oblanceolate, surfaces softly hirsute; basal petiolate, cauline sessile.

Inflorescences pedicels < calyces.

Flowers calyx tubes hirsute with erect hooked trichomes, lobes equal; corolla limbs 1–4 mm wide, yellow when young, maturing white or blue, with small white marking at base of lobes; fornices well developed, yellow.

Fruits not surpassing style, dark brown to black.

2n=64.

Disturbed areas, freshwater wetlands. Flowering Apr–Jun. 0–1500 m. BW, Casc, CR, ECas, Est, Sisk, WV. CA, ID, NV, WA; throughout Canada and US except Midwest; Europe. Exotic.
