Gardening with Natives

Cusick's rose checkermallow is becoming uncommon in its natural habitat where it generally grows in sunny and open riparian habitats and moist fields. Its arresting deep rose-pink flowers grow in dense racemes that are loved by native butterflies and other pollinators. It makes a show-stopping addition to meadowscapes and wildflower or pollinator gardens. This tall, herbaceous perennial grows to 6 feet and is an ideal replacement for ornamental hollyhocks, loosestrife, and snapdragons.
